It broke my heart when my crazy friend Joe died in a motorcycle accident two weeks ago. I wasn’t too shocked, though, since the guy lived the life that would scare the heck out of a movie stunt man. He’s worked on boats in the middle of the ocean, hauling up fish and lobsters. He’s been on the rodeo bull riding circuit, and worked on deep water oil rigs. Joe was this huge, scary looking guy, but when you knew him, he was a huge sweetheart. He also read constantly, and was one of the most well rounded, smartest guys I’ve ever know. I was some of the only family he had, even though we aren’t blood related. In his typical wacky fashion, he left money in his will specifically for me to hire a mariachi Houston band for his funeral. He wants us all to have a party and remember his life, then spread his ashes off the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ll do whatever I need to to make his final wishes happen.

You could add a personal touch to you gift by writing out a birthday poem. While giving gifts to a near or dear one include a poem you have composed and see their face light up with delight. For in the poem you would most probably be expressing a whole lot of sentiments. Choose words that would compliment the recipient and see that the ending of each line rhymes with the previous line. Your poem could be filled with humor, love, or may be just a few thoughts put together in the verse.
A Simple poem could go this way
Not so long ago you were fifteen,
But now you blossomed into a beauty queen.
A maiden so fair with such golden hair.
Happy Birthday my love, you’re as gentle as a dove.
When you say delightful things about a person you often boost their morale. Birthday poems need not only be written to lovers, they could also be written to parents or beloved grandparents, aunts and uncles who would most probably treasure the words and feelings that you’ve put on paper.
